This is the true story of Marji, an Iranian girl who grows up during revolution and war. A descendant of the last Emperor of Iran, Marjane Satrapi grows up with some privileges, such as education and her father's Cadillac, but events in her homeland constantly squash her freedoms. The graphic novel depicts the adventurous, intelligent Satrapi from age 9 to 14; the author and illustrator looks back on the normal trials of youth, along with that of war and regime.
